“Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.””
Exodus 3:1-3 NIV
The pearls represent God’s wisdom falling to the earth. The stars in the sky are his many promises to us. All the elements in the painting represent the radical presence of God.
They all point to him. Him being found by us. He’s not hiding, but you can’t access him from just anywhere, it has to be a place of secrecy, solitude, intimacy.
Don’t be afraid to get closer, to let your curiosity get the best of you. Approach the presence of God with curiosity not skepticism of how it should or shouldn’t be. And let go of your control. When you go deep in the wilderness you encounter God’s radical presence. Just like the painting itself It’s not gonna look like it’s “supposed to.”
Be open. Be receptive to him and let him blow your way of thinking out of the water. Let him show you new ways to flow in his presence. Don’t limit yourself or him to what you already know and understand. Serve him with excellence. Allow him to stretch you. Let it overflow from there.
