Winter is a preservative. You have been going through a cold, dead, or dormant season. So it has seemed. You are ready for spring to come. But, here is a reminder winter preserves the ground. Your soil has been protected from the harsh elements. It may seem as if no fruit is being produced the visible things have died back, but your roots are preserved. There will be regrowth. So rest. As winter fades your soil will be rich with nutrients for the upcoming planting. Your soil will be drenched with springs of living water as the snow starts to melt. The soil of your heart is being prepared. I see leaves growing on your branches. Fruit will come and be evidence of the work that’s been done in the dark. So hold on and stay planted. Don’t uproot and move on. Rooted in rest. Soak in the living water drenching your soil.

“My beloved spoke and said to me, “Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, come with me. See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance. Arise, come, my darling; my beautiful one, come with me.””

Song of Songs 2:10-13 NIV
